Kathy Peres has been a Yoga Alliance RYT 200 since 2014. She is a 500 hour certified teacher of the Integrated Amrit Method of Yoga (I AM Yoga) as taught by Yogi Amrit Desai. She has received teacher training In Yoga levels I and II (Posture of Consciousness and Meditation in Motion), Yoga Nidra and Advanced Yoga Nidra, as well as therapeutic yoga, all within the I AM Method. Kathy is also known as Rahula, the name given her by Gurudev.
Kathy has spent her adult life seeking a lifestyle that is both productive and meaningful, helping others while trying to nourish herself. She earned a Ph.D. in and practiced as a clinical psychologist until 1993, when she and her husband left south Florida to live in the center of the state, immersed in a more natural setting. She began working full-time in their computer software business, sitting at a desk and computer all day. In 1999, she and her husband began riding a tandem bicycle as their major source of recreation and exercise, usually riding 50 to 60 miles per week. Then life changed. In 2005, Kathy’s mother moved into their home after her own house took on 8 feet of water released by Hurricane Katrina. She remained with them until her death in 2013. In 2008, Kathy began attending yoga classes in order to deal with chronic back pain. She had become a textbook example of stress robbing life of its joy. All of her I AM Yoga training was taken to facilitate and deepen her own yoga practice which has now become a combination of asana and Meditation in Motion practice and daily seated meditation.
Kathy began by teaching Yoga Nidra to her employees. She expanded into substitute teaching Gentle Yoga classes for her colleague at Still Lake Yoga in Clermont, FL. She now teaches Gentle Yoga on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Still Lake Yoga Center, 365 Citrus Tower Blvd, Clermont FL, 34711. Appropriate for students ranging from beginners to advanced yoga practitioners, Kathy’s class incorporates essential elements from the Integrated Amrit Method of Yoga into a mix of asanas, pranayama, and deep relaxation. The meditative quality of Kathy’s class is its signature. You will leave with a heightened awareness of your energy, sensations, and internal focus.
